Mangoland Musings: Oh’ Happy Day Monologue
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed yesterday. The early morning grumpy side.
I remember once running into a friend on a sunshine filled summer morning after he hiked down from Pulpit rock I asked him how he was- he said “Grumpy”! Then began to giggle. He loves the song Mr. Blue Sky by ELO and it is subsequently what I think of when I need cheering up. Grump aptly describes what I have been.
Alas, I had music. And music it is the greatest mood changer!
One that always makes me smile is Mr. Tough from Yo La Tango’s brilliant album I Am Not Afraid of you and I’ll Beat you’re Ass.
“A Pretty little girl who’s names starts with a B”- That is me! Our bad elicit moods a little ego boost. A little ego boost can do wonders- The track B-B-B Bicycles by The Bicycles, is just the ticket if your name starts with B….
I was also tempted to play the song Australia off of that album The Good, The bad and the cuddly. Because yesterday I was walking down the street after grocery shopping, my box of hearty winter vegetables in my hand (something that usually brings me endless joy) and behind me was a gaggle if exuberant Aussie ski bums (another thing that usually brings me endless joy). I mean what Nelsonite doesn’t enjoy a gang of brash voiced bearded micro-economy boosters that are a staple here for our winter? Under normal circumstances at the walkman light I’d strike up a conversation… “Hey nice accent you know I used to live in Australia how about that vegemate– yadda yadda yadda”. Today however, I felt nothing spite for these boisterous fellows. Thankfully music is but one of the lovely mood changers at our finger tips…..
I may attribute this short lived grumpy spell to a great lack of vitamin D. But I live up far north during the summer months with Sun almost 24hrs a day I’d like to think that Vitamin D is just stored in every fiber of my being. But days like reaffirm that it isn’t so. Sometimes when I get in a funk I go on a hike and yell “I’m am a Vampire!” to the trees along with the band antsy pants…..
You can download the show that goes with this monologue here. Just punch in 10-11 on Wed.
Playlist: I love music and it consequently is in my potting life. It enhances the studio all the time and therefore my process. It is a bit of my life I would like to share. So I will post up an MP3 from the week, links concerning the band, and a personal review of the album. Likewise with the other review categories.
