My friend Anna asked me the other day what glazes didn’t contain any nasty materials and I quipped that only the boring ones do. True, lead makes for a lush surface and rich colors, bariums makes for brights etc.. The glaze room is full of stuff to be careful of but it is also full of endless possibilities, and when metled and sealed in glass form you can rest assured your pots are safe. On one of the long summer days this year I busted out some construction paper and crayons and four books on materials to review it all. Here is my reminder sheet. Neat stuff it all is, just rocks in various states of decomposition and the potter melts it all back together to make what most of you have in your cupboards.
